Addiction to smoking

An addiction will be developed for any thing when a person is habitual of something or when something becomes compulsive. Research says that young people generally start smoking when they observe their friends or other related people smoke. Peer pressure has also been identified as another factor. Also it can be said that media enforces the idea of smoking and makes it look like it is socially acceptable.

Smoking has dangerous consequences for both children and adults. Children who start smoking at an early age are likely to develop many heart related diseases and also respiratory problems. People who start smoking from a very young age tend to die early. Not only does it affect the person who smokes but also to the person who is present in that environment. Smoking damages lungs and causes many heart related diseases. Women, especially those who are pregnant should make efforts to quit smoking as not doing so may affect the health of the unborn child. A child’s weight may be affected and also it may also have some abnormalities in its behavior if a mother smokes especially during pregnancy. Not only this, a child is also likely to have asthma if one of its parents smokes.

Smoking becomes difficult to quit if it becomes an addiction. There are ways in which you can quit smoking. First step is to realize how dangerous smoking is. It becomes lot easier to quit smoking once you accept that it is dangerous for your health.

Why is it hard to quit smoking?

The first question that comes to our mind when we are looking to quit the habit of something is that why we started it in the first place. Same is the case in smoking. Research shows that people, especially children start smoking by looking others smoke and also because of peer pressure. When children copy their adults they feel that they are mature, impressive and also look attractive to opposite sex.

Adult men mainly smoke because they are unable to handle the economic burden. Smoking helps them psychologically feel relax and thus leads to some solution. This is a misconception. Smoking may help relax a person psychologically but it destroys him physically.

Addiction to anything is very common in human behavior as it is related to human nature and psychology. Smoking is considered to be the most common psychological addiction. Smoking may relax a human psychologically but its affects on human health are detrimental.

Chemicals such as tar, nicotine and also carbon monoxide are used in the making of cigarettes. Nicotine helps a person relax and also stimulates pleasurable effects. Nicotine is also a powerful mood-altering drug. It gets into the blood stream in just 6 seconds and thus helps relax. People who become addicted to smoking find it hard to quit because they may find difficult to give away the so called advantages to them.
